OMG.... no kidding. The mosquitoes in China are vicious. This is a warning and a strongly recommended advise to be taken to all of you who are planning to come to China during the summer and who might be a bit sensitive to mosquito bites.. Bring remedies! Bring repellent lotions. Bring creams to apply when you've been bitten. Because aooooooooch... this babies itches. And one little bite makes the whole area around the bite go all red/white and swell into a bump. And this swelling/itching doesn't go away within a few days. No, I am talking one week of sleepless nights of itching, not to mention ugly marks on your arms, legs and feet. It's only the beginning of summer and I already look like spotty.
Apparently I have the yummiest blood amongst my friends because it is always me being bitten, even though I apply copious amounts of insect repellents before leaving my flat.
My Chinese friends says this has to do with blood types. I don't have a clue what blood type I am (do u?) but obviously the great tasting kind. So people. Prepare. China's mosquitos are in action from dusk til dawn. Just wanted to warn you.
Ps. a less angry and more normal post is to come this arvo. Stay tuned!

You must have Blood type A.
I just read this article the other day, and now I'm almost terrified to leave the house. :P

Are there any weird bugs/animals that you've seen that are only found in China? I'm going to be moving to China near the end of Summer, and I want to know a little bit more about what things might be like there. Wikipedia can only tell me so much.
I hate mosquitoes as well and always seem to be bitten. Have you tried using tiger balm or something similiar to soothe the itch?
Tripfriend -China is actually a kinda 'safe' place for us who dislike bugs.. well, especially the big cities where the pollution is too heavy for bugs to hatch. During the summer there's lots of cockroaches and mosquitoes and flies, but that's about it. A few times I have seen something big and scary flying around in the air (no, not a bird, but more like a giant bee?!) but I always run the opposite way so I still don't know what it is...
Where in China are u going? Obviously it's different in different parts of the country. I am only speaking for Shanghai/Suzhou.
Jane -Tiger balm, yes you said it, thanks! Gotta go and get myself some. I should b able to find it here I assume... I bought something else that was supposed to give relief against insect bites the other day, very similar to tiger balm and dirt cheap at the Chi pharmacy. But it didn't work so well, only smelled nice...
Try raw onion.
I'm honestly not sure where I'm going yet. I recently got my TESL/TEFL certification so I'm going to teach English. Right now I'm still waiting for replies to the resumes I sent out.
