Today my boyfriend made an interesting phone call to the Indian embassy hotline:
-Wei!?
-Hello! I am calling to ask about visas.
-Wait a minute.
(screaming in Chinese in the background)
-I am sorry, the person you are looking for is not here. Can you give us your name and we will call you back?
-Eh... sure.. but just to make sure... this is the Indian Embassy right??
-Okay Mr Indian Embassy! We will call you back as soon as we can! Bye! (hangs up the phone)
What the f*** just happened?!?!!
(FYI: it WAS the Indian embassy indeed. Someone else from my bf's company called back 5 min later just to make sure)
:-))
ReplyDeleteHahaha! It’s stuff like this that makes me miss Shanghai so much! Really looking forward to heading back there in a couple of months!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog! Keep up the great work Jonna!
T -I'm so glad to hear u like my blog, so thanks a lot for your comment, it made me smile! :) Yeah it's funny how much u can experience just by making some phone calls here in China... ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear u r heading back, and during winter as well. I personally prefer Shanghai during the winters.. sure, a bit cold but not too bad... (nothing compares to where I come from anyways) and u can actually walk around without having to sweat (half) to death.
I totally agree! I've never been during summer, but from what I've heard, it can be very humid.
ReplyDeleteI was actually born in Shanghai, but moved with my family to Australia when I was five. I try to head back every couple of years, and I'm amazed by the change and progress every time! Shanghai is such a dynamic and exciting city; I'd love to have the opportunity to work there one day! I really regret not continuing with studying Chinese, and I really admire people like you, with no background in Chinese whatsoever, who put everything into learning the language :D.
T -How about your parents? Do they never speak Chi to u? Do u reckon it would it be hard for u to learn it? I'm sure u'll get a chance to work in Shanghai in the future if u want to -it's the city of possibilities!
ReplyDeleteAs for putting everything into learning Chinese (gosh I never realised how... big/crazy/devoted that sounds...) -I can only hope that it eventually pays off!
