That one, special day of the year

Happy birthday to me!!! Today's my birthday, and yeah, I know that at my age I am not supposed to be all excited about it and stuff, but what the h**. We are not getting any younger anyways, so why fret? I'll embrace this day just like I did when I turned 7 and got a My Little Pony stable from my parents (probably the happiest day of my life at that point!).

Three years ago, exactly, we landed in Shanghai for the first time. This year, my birthday is spent in Finland. I have another 2 weeks to go here before I go back to China! Exciting!

I thought I'd share some photos from my holiday week in Finland, this time taken at my bf's family's summer cottage. This is probably one of my favorite places on earth: Lake. Water. Forest. Nature. Good company. I don't need much more to be happy. It'll be another year or so until we make it back to this cottage, but until then I have these photos to remind me of the good times.

Anyhow, now time to get on celebrating! Have a good weekend!

  3. Anonymous -what question did I not reply to? Did u post a comment on the blog or did you email me? I always try to respond if I get any questions, sometimes I forget though, but hey, if it was something important, please do ask again and I'll do my best to respond: jonnawib at yahoo.se

However, if you think this blog stinks then that's obvious a reason good enough not to follow it, so go ahead. Don't waste anymore time here!

Fei -thank you thank you!! :)

  7. Happy Birthday Jonna!

Is that a picture of floating beer??

@ First Anonymous: You're a real piece of work, you know? This is a birthday post. But one thing you should keep in mind is that blogging is a hobby for most people. Not their job, so if something slips through the cracks, you should realize it's not the end of the world. Life is busy, and not all of it revolves around the internet!

I think this blog is great! Honestly, I'm more interested in stories about China than Finland, but it's a personal blog and it follows the author. I'm looking forward to when she'll start telling us about China again, but that doesn't mean I'll be rude, or stop following her blog in the meantime. Besides, this blog is usually so positive. It's nice.

  8. Socrate/ Lotta -thanks!! Tackar!!!

anonymous -I know, I have that function. I chose to publish the comment because I am really curious about what it is that I haven't replied to... Obviously I cannot please everybody with this blog, and I never intended to either.

Tales -thanks for the wishes, and about the blog.. I know it is obviously not as interesting to read about life in FI as it is to read about life in China, mainly because nothing happens over here!! haha! But well, it's only another 2 weeks or something to go, then things will be back to normal. Thanks for speaking up anyways, nice to know when people like your blog. Not so nice to hear from those who hates it, however, that's just how it is, and to be honest, I don't really care. I am not blogging to please others. Like u said, it's a kind of hobby.

  9. Happy Birthday!! I hope you have a wonderful day.

  10. Ya. Well, Finland sort of reminds me of where I'm from, so it's like reading a familiar book, you know? Whereas China is new to me. Doesn't mean it's bad to read about Finland, cuz I've never been there, just that China is more exciting to me. ^_^

But, it's a hobby and a personal blog, so the blog will follow you.

I'm kinda wondering what I'll do with my blog when I return to the US. I think I'll keep writing on it for as long as I have stories to tell about my adventures in Asia, and then I'll leave a nice cap as the last page, directing people to my new blog, if I decide to start one. That's a long way off though...

  12. Anonymous who ever the heck you are!! for your information blogging can be a job I know because it is what I do and I get paid very very well to do it. Perhaps you are a failed blogger and thus the animosity? And, if you truly wanted to insult Joana why not leave your name? Hmm??

Although I have to admit reading your childish ramblings is rather entertaining - isnt' everyone Ha! ha! we are enjoying you at your expense!!! ... Fundywriter, why don't you come insult me on my blog!! Hoo HOo too much!

  13. Dear Jonna

生日快乐!Hope you had a great day!
I should take your birthday blog entry as opportunity to leave a comment here (for the first time).
Besides, the first rude comment from Anonymous almost forced me to to this.

I have studied Sinology and lived for a while in Shanghai. I am really missing Shanghai a lot - and China in general.
By coincidence I found your blog a few weeks ago and your stories from and about China are really awesome! You have a great view of things which surrounding you and your stories about Chinese daily life are hilarious - reminds me of my time being in China:-)! Pleae always keep up your great work!

And never feel bothered or offended by such whoever anonymous comments!!

Have a great journey back to China!
    All my best
    Katharina

  15. 生日快乐!

    Grattis på födelsedagen!

Jag gillar din blogg, especially the Finland stuff :) Nice pics and a great contrast to your life in China, which is good for people to see both of your worlds. I'd just ignore the troll, delete comments like that. You're not obliged to please everybody, this is your tiny bit of the blogoverse, hehe.

Javisst ska du leva, javisst ska du leva, javisst ska du leva uti hundrade år. ;-)

  18. Happy birthday! By coincidence, I found you through the Gweipo blog, and thereby discovered another blogger with exactly the same birthday as me, Aug. 15.

  19. Happy Birthday, Jonna!!! Sounds like you are having a ton of fun. I'm glad you have the chance to 'get away' and enjoy nature once in a while. Having time to do that from time to time seems to help put life back in perspective, do you agree? Anyway, looking forward to ALL of your blogging, where ever it is from. Take care!

  20. Happy Birthday Jonna. Hope you had a smashing day. The date also happens to be India's independence day, so a few million people were also celebrating your birthday !

Ignore the odd unpleasant comment - an occupational hazard of bloggers. We follow your blog because its nice and fun. Don't change anything.

  21. Today is your day, and you're wished the best,
I hope you celebrate it, with a lot of zest.

For today though you are a year older,
Store away your many wishes, until you feel bolder.

So let the drums roll and horns toot,
Now make a wish for a lot of loot.

  22. What's the 5th photo? It looks like a massive breadstick on a pole ... but it can't be, can it?

As for the first comment, I agree with everyone else. You seem to put forward a lot of effort to answer everyone's questions/comments, but if you decide to skip a few or take a short break from replying, it's not the end of the world. After all, it's not as if we're paying you for your writing. Sometimes, higher priority tasks will pop up.

I love the China stuff, but the Finland posts have been interesting as well. Then again, I'm an uncultured American who rarely gets exposed to things outside the US ;)

  29. Again, thanks for all your bday wishes and comments! Reading that is like celebrating a second bday :)

And to answer some questions/address some things:

Plumflower -grattis på födelsedagen! Idag e det din tur!!!

Kosmo -it is indeed a bread roll on a stick, haha! It's a sort of sweat bun that u first slowly grill over the open fire and then eat with strawberries and a cream mix... it may not sound good but oh, it was delicious!! First time for me to try this summer.

londoncalling -it's a samoyed yeah. My bf's family has got three of them! Sooooo gorgeous!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Jonna: By "sweat bun" I hope you meant "sweet bun". ;) Actually, I'm a big fan of fresh bread, strawberries and cream, so all three together sound like a great deal to me.

  42. Happy Birthday! I know this is late, but I have never commented on your blog before and I felt this was a good opportunity to do so. Keep the blogs coming, I am very interested in what you have to say. You are doing what most people over here in the U.S. wish they could do, travel, travel, travel. And that's great.

  43. I have not commented on your posts since blogspot was banned by Chinese Goverment. Although It is late to say "happy birthday" to you,I would not miss this chance to give you my blessing:祝你越活越年轻。
