Noooooooo! I don't have time for this! My throat is clogged and I have a very, ehum... deep kind of whiskey voice (nope, not the sexy kind). I HAVE to be well for this wknd. And why? Well that I'll tell you on Saturday (it's a bit of a "big bomb!") I need all your best home cures to make the recovery go faster. Anything I can eat or drink that does flu/throat miracles? (I still don't have any fever and the nose is not runny... it's just the throat that is completely clogged). I know this is a long shot, but who knows, someone might still know something?
As for staying home to rest -yeah, absolutely no time for that either this week.
All help appreciated!!

hi Jonna, I would gargle with salt water, take massive amounts of Vitamin C, drink plenty of water and chicken soup, and get lots of rest. "Li Shui" helps too (peel and dice some pears, boil them for about 20 minutes, add "bing tang"). I hope you feel better soon!
try gurgling with hot vinegar and salt...its what i always do when i have a sore throat.
mint tea with honey and lemon, sip slowly while its hot...
Garggling with hot water and salt before bedtime also helps...
hot toddys.... shot of whisky, hot water, touch of honey and lemon before bed. tastes terrible but always does the trick.
Chinese remedy from my ex's mother. Boil coca-cola with tons of fresh ginger. Turn of the heat and add lemon slices. Drink. It should make you feel better.
Eat spicy food, too. Like kimchi.
Do not delay in taking strong antibiotics, Vibramycin works for me. Only antibiotics will have any chance of you being half OK bty the weekend, no matter what folks say about various home cures. Whiskey will help your throat in the short term.
I'm not a doctor nor do I play on TV. But, I think whiskey (or any hard liquor) helps when sipped. Seems to make my throat feel better in combination with my below regimen. Anise tea also make the throat feel better if it is sore.
For medication I like the combination of pseudoephedrine (120 mg 12 hour time release) and loratadine (20 mg). I like the 12 hour version of both if you can find it. Also if you add cimetidine (200 mg) you'll block all histamines. Then take either ibuprophin (400 mg) or tylenol for pain relief which rounds out my cocktail. Makes a cold/flu feel "almost" normal.
A great side effect of pseudoephedrine is that it'll give you a little energy and crazy dreams. Sometimes the dreams make great blog material.
Try Oil of Oregano, I'm not sure if they have it in China. But it works wonders, the only problem is it tastes like crap. Good luck.
Karl
maybe try some 胖大海(Sterculia lychnophora),you can find them in local Traditional Chinese Medicine hospital or pharmacy

get well soon! :)
Wow, thanks you guys! I ended up going to the DR as well... didn't wanna take any risks. Got some crappy medicine and I will also do the salt water gurgling tonight.
Karl -I never heard of Oil of Oregano? Sounds quite good though. Will def look for that in Sweden.
George -for pseudoephedrine u need a prescription right?
Jim -I tried to give the DR to give me something strong but he thought there was no need. I only had a bit of fever + the throat + body ache + no appetite (which is very alarming to me since I am always hungry!) + cough +headache. Let's hope he is right!!
Everybody else -great home cures. I'll send my bf to the shop later to get me everything I need... hhe :)
Salt water gorgling works good, but I don't really like the taste of it. So I often drink hot tea with honey when I have a soar throat.
Get well soon, Jonna!
Wow, somebody has suggested coca cola! I never thought it would do even a healthy person any good. :)
In India, we have a balm called Vicks, I find it quite effective.
Good you're on medication, that should help you. Keep sipping warm water through the day.Get well soon!
Jonna, Pseudoephedrine (盐酸伪麻黄碱) shouldn't require a prescription for up to 120 mg doses. Look for Tylenol Cold since it'll have it as an active ingredient. Also, 白加黑 but stick to the white ones.
Going to reinforce the salt water gargling!
Glad to see so many others are aware of this. In biology class we actually applied various substances to the strep virus and viewed the results through a microscope. By far the most dramatic results came from those that were exposed to warm salt water.
Get the water hot enough so that a good amount can be dissolved in it, then let it cool to the point that it is comfortable to gargle. Then, well, gargle!
This is yummy for when you've got a cold: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nin_Jiom_Pei_Pa_Koa
Get well soon!
Wish I could help, I think I have the same thing you do... my voice was almost completely gone yesterday, though I'm feeling better without help today...
你可能是吃太多辣的食物,上火了,试一试 王老吉,金银花露,或者其他清火的东西。

Hello there! I'm so glad Google brought me to your blog. I'm heading to Suzhou Uni this December for a short 2-weeks exchange program. Coming from a tropical country with the unfortunate absence of the four seasons, I am rather clueless on what to wear. Also, prices of winter wear are exorbitant here in Singapore.
Could you kindly enlighten me on how university students in Suzhou dress up in winter? And whether there are shops around the uni that sell winter clothings at reasonable prices? Thanks loads!!
Can't help you there Jonna...I always just tough it through. My policy regarding this small types of sicknesses have always been to never take any medicine - build your own immune system.
